Greetings, everyone, and welcome to Croc: Hero of the Gobbos!
My name's Forte Wily, a gamer who visited Argonaut's studio some
years ago, and became officially established as one of Croc's very
biggest fans, and this is my site. Speaking of this
site, you're probably wondering what it's all about. Croc: Hero of
the Gobbos is intended to help fix a problem that fans of Argonaut
Games' Croc video game series face - namely, the lack of any big
fan-presence and news sources on the web.
Currently, we have information on the games in the series, the series'
cast of characters, amusingly geeky trivia factoids, a gallery of Croc
art
(both official and fan-created), recommendations for other games and
series that Croc fans might enjoy, and links to other worthwhile sites
for you to check out. We also have a shiny, brand new forum for Croc
fans to
sink their teeth into so that they can discuss their favourite series
with other like-minded fans.
In the coming weeks as the community grows, we'll be able to establish
an archive of news posts from the
site's front page (which you're reading right now, unless you're
reading this in the News Archive in the future, in which case; Hello
from May 2004!), as well as hopefully add more art to the Gallery, and
more links to the Links page.
We hope you'll stick with us as the site grows, and as we try to
provide
you with the best Croc
information and news that we can.
May 29th 2004: Croc Spotting.
Hello, everyone, and welcome to our very first news update here at Croc:
Hero of the Gobbos.
Some interesting things have been cropping up, Croc-wise, lately,
especially on one of the internet's most popular search engines, Google - some old interviews from
2001 that somehow weren't very widely
noticed back when they were originally given have been found there, and
both of them mention Croc!
As you can see in this
interview from May 3rd 2001, work was supposed to begin on a Croc 3
more than three years ago! Furthermore, according to this
piece from August 7th 2001, a Croc racing game was also in the works.
These pieces are quite interesting to see, and it makes you wonder what
on Earth happened to those games - were they cancelled, or just put on
hold?
The next bit of news that we have seeks to answer that. During the E3
(Electronic Entertainment Expo) exhibition a week or two ago in Los
Angeles, a notice was placed on Argonaut's
official website, stating that they were working on games for the
new handheld consoles, the Nintendo DS, and the Sony PlayStation
Portable. However, after this was reported by several gaming news
sites, the information was mysteriously removed! "What does this have
to do with Croc?", I hear you ask. Well, another bit of interesting
information still remains on Argonaut's site, on their History page;
-----
" As well as releasing Carve, Malice & Powerdrome, Argonaut is
developing Catwoman with Electronic Arts and developing sequels,
licenses, and new IP for current and future platforms. "
-----
The emboldened text was emphasised by us - if Argonaut are working on
sequels, then there is a relatively good chance of a new Croc game
being produced. If anyone from Argonaut is reading this, then we here
at Croc: Hero of the Gobbos would really appreciate hearing
what you have to say on the matter. ;)
Either way, as things currently stand, it looks like there may still be
hope for the future of our crocodilian hero yet!
June 1st 2004: Return of the Hero?
Hello Croc fans, and welcome to Croc: Hero of the Gobbos!
We just obtained some extremely awesome news from Pete Jones,
the head of development at Argonaut
Games PLC., regarding Croc's future (both on current and upcoming
gaming hardware). Without a doubt, this is something that all Croc fans
will be happy to hear;
-----
" There's no concrete reason why we couldn't bring Croc back,
out of retirement and maybe onto the newer platforms at some point.
There's certainly interest here at Argonaut to see what we can do with
him on some of this current and newer hardware.
However, we'd need to work with a really keen games Publisher first who
be interested in publishing a Croc game. Until then, we'll have to wait
and see if one of them makes us an offer! "
-----
So there you have it - official word on Croc's status, and renewed hope
for the return of the one they call "The Legend of the Gobbos".
Many, many thanks go out to Pete Jones for his quick response on the
Argonaut forums, and for giving us this info!
Until next update - CROC ON!!
June 30th 2004: CrocVG's Games, And Random Site Updates.
Welcome, Croc fans and newcomers alike, to another update here at Croc:
Hero of the Gobbos.
We have several pieces of news to cover this time around, so without
further ado, here we go;
First off, CrocVG (owner of the site Croc Video Games -- The Legend
of Croc, and a member of the Croc: Hero of the Gobbos Forum)
has produced a playable pre-release version of his upcoming fan-game, "Croc
3: Rise of the Dante". You can read more about it in his forum
post, or you can visit the Croc 3 section of CrocVG's site to check it
out - and be sure to give some feedback in CrocVG's guestbook if you
try the game!
Secondly, the Random Facts page has been
updated with 7 little-known Croc trivia factoids, that I kind of forgot
to put there to begin with. Also, the Characters
page has been updated with the only important Croc series character who
didn't have an entry there before - Swap Meet Pete. Pete fans can now
rest easy knowing that he now has a listing. Some images that were
missing from the Gallery (specifically, the
Croc and Croc 2 GBC spritesheets that were ripped by Forte Wily) have
been added, too.
Last of all, Forest Island, the roleplaying area of the Croc: Hero of the Gobbos Forum
has been removed, due to the fact that there aren't really enough
people around to neccessitate such a forum at this time. However, as
the community
grows, there may come a time when it will be reinstated.
That's all for this time - until next update, take care of yourselves,
and remember to keep on Croccin'!
August 6th 2004: Quiet Month, And A Shout-Out
Aloha, Croc fans and Croc-discoverers. This is Croc:
Hero of the Gobbos, and I am your host, Forte Wily.
This month has been rather quiet with regard to Croc-related news, so,
unfortunately, there really isn't a great deal to be said this update.
However, rather than go without updating, and leaving old news up for
goodness-only-knows-how-long, I figured I'd do some random maintenance
here and there (though it'll probably be un-noticeable to most), and
give a shout-out to the Croc team members who joined up at the forum;
Hi guys, and thanks for dropping by! :)
However, just because there's not a lot to say, doesn't mean that we
don't have some new content: Two new facts have been added to the Random Facts page, courtesy of Medulla on the Croc: Hero of the Gobbos Forum.
Kudos. :D
Here's hoping that there'll be some super-cool news in time for the
next
update. Croc On!
October 2nd 2004: Updates, Updates, Everywhere...
Good day to all you Croc aficionados out there! Welcome to Croc:
Hero of the Gobbos. I'm your web-host, Forte Wily.
We have several little updates scattered across the site this time
around, starting with a new link on the Links page
to a site called "Dreamcast Lives!".
Once you've checked that out, we have a new image in the Gallery, which
is also reproduced below for your convenience. This is our first
fan-submission to Croc: Hero of the Gobbos,
and a fine one it is, too;
This picture comes to us from a reader of the site known as Overlord,
who took the time and made the effort to hack some new text into his
Croc 2 game, to let us know that not all Gobbos drink Ginger
Soda (we presume the little guy in the picture with the clipboard is
from the Student
Tribe).
This gave me a laugh, at least. Good stuff, man.
The image will also be preserved on the site's Gallery
page
for posterity.
That's all for another update. Until then, keep on Croccin'!
